For our digi-pack and the website, we researched artists websites of artists from similar genres. The research we did into similar music videos came in use as we had the bands from the similar genres already.
The cardigans
Use bright colours and an unusual font, the website was full of sketches and collages, this shows a personal element to the band and distinguishes them from other bands, this is because of the fact that the rock genre doesn’t consist of many female singers, so to mirror the difference that they bring to the genre, they had to have a different design of website.
Jessica Hernandez and the Deltas
Uses many of the same conventions as the cardigans in using bright colour and a custom font. The website creates an individual aspect to the band. The minimalist layout of the website creates ease of use for the audience and makes every aspect of the website easily accessible
Gin Wigmore
The singer of the video that we are doing
Uses a very normal font (Helvetica) and a luminescent pink, this fits into the female empowerment that she is trying to bring about in her music and website by having the hashtag ‘girlgang’ on the website. The simplicity of the website is aesthetically pleasing and not confusing. The design involves a circle going through her name on the front page with links to tours, her shop and everything an audience would want to know about the artist.
Conclusion
The overarching message I have come across the similar music artists websites is that they must be bright and colourful with as many distinguishing factors as possible to make them stand out in the genre more.

ReplyDeleteIt's useful that you have picked up on some conventions around the use of colour and font. However there is also lots of ground that you haven't attempted to cover. Please use the task sheet that is on sharepoint to develop this analysis further - this should include looking at what content is included in the pages and how this is structured. I hope that the rehearsals you predict in the post above materialise this week as this will be key to a successful shoot day and finished product.
