Birdman

Favourite Film Review - 'Birdman' (2014)

The film 'Birdman' (2014) is written and directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu who is also the mastermind behind 'The Revenant' (2015), 'Babel' (2006), 'Biutiful' (2010), etc. The cast of the movie consisted of many big names notably Edward Norton, Michael Keaton and Emma Stone who were all nominated for acting Oscars for their roles. The film also won best picture at the Oscars as well as cinematography, directing and original screenplay Oscars.

The film was highly anticipated due to moments of hilarity from the cast that where seen in the trailers and 5 star reviews by almost every reviewer, however, when the film was released, it got mixed reviews from the public, many who loved it and many who despised it and strongly objected to it winning the best picture Oscar. However, no one can deny the mastery that Iñárritu posses as a director, he has a flare for the flamboyant and a savvy style that keeps the audience in awe of what he was able to achieve in the film.

One of the things which was really amazing about the film is that a vast majority of the film has no cuts, instead has a continuous structure where the camera follows characters and then transitions to other characters fluidly. The film is a mixture of diegetic and non-diegetic sound, this is seen throughout the film as the score is jazz drumming and sometimes the jazz drummer is seen, and sometimes it is only used as the score.

The film is made by Fox Searchlight and Regency Pictures with a reasonably small budget for a modern blockbuster of 18,000,000 dollars.

The film is a modern masterpiece which earns Iñárritu A place in the cinematic hall-of-fame and a worthy 5 stars for a near perfect film.
